adventures in food

Eliza started eating solids officially a couple weeks ago when she turned 6 months! We decided to wait on solids since she had tummy issues as a newborn and she seemed to be doing just fine on breast milk. That's her favorite food ya know ;)

There were a few other things I was watching and waiting for as she became increasingly more ready for food. She would watch us eat with fascination, in fact with this face right here...

She would also move her jaw up and down and "practice chewing" hehe :)

It was like she was saying, I am pwacticing weawy hawd because I want my mom to know dat I am weawy weady fow sowid food. Yes, we talk baby talk around here, but it's mostly written and less spoken nowadays so that she hears us speaking cowectwy ;)

Also, just a few days before she turned 6 months she began sitting up unsupported! She had been practicing sitting up for a couple months, in fact I had gotten a few pictures of her "sitting" where I would set her, snap a pic, and catch her before she fell ;) But soon enough, she was sitting all on her own!

Right here mom, that's where I want my food, just put it right here ;)
Her very first food was watermelon... she just loved it! I thought feeding her would be a breeze. It hasn't been that hard, but it's been more of a challenge than I expected :)

The watermelon was just nibbles and licks, but I began feeding her squash, avocado, sweet potatoes, peaches, melon, plums, prunes, mangoes, cucumber, pickles, rice, oatmeal, bananas and carrots. So far she has had about the same reaction to everything, non-plussed. I mean, she just loved the watermelon, but when it came to food on a spoon she seemed to be less enthusiastic. After a couple weeks of solids and purees though she has begun opening her mouth pretty reliably for the food and seems to be asking for more and more every day :)

more avocado :)

Avocado is a fantastic first food! it's so soft and easy for baby to eat. It is full of literally every single nutrient baby needs. I actually slice the avocado long ways to make "spears" and let her hold them and try to feed herself. They are slippery so she doesn't get much in her mouth herself, but she tries :) I help her along. And we have a lot of fun doing it along the way!
