memoirs from Grandma (1)

May 25 & 26, 2012

So … you spent the night with Grandpa and me last night… your 4-month birthday! What a big girl you are! I'm so proud to be your grandma! We love having you come to visit!

This afternoon while you were napping, I thought it would be a great time to nap as well. But about 15 minutes after I lay down, you squawked. I got up and nukked you. You were so cute. You didn't even look at me… you just searched for your nuk with your little mouth. When I put it in, you turned your head, as always, to bury your face in whatever was closest at the time. You love to snuggle! This time, it was your puppy – your new favorite!

My nap was over, needless to say. So I went downstairs to do a few things before you awakened. When I heard your shriek on the monitor, I thought, "Well, she's definitely had enough sleep – she's ready to get up!" But I still had a couple of things to do before I went up to get you so I left you up there shrieking, cooing, babbling, etc. You were so happy! When I finally did go up, I found you with your face completely under Puppy. He was lying right on top of your face! He was a naughty puppy! But you apparently thought that was the greatest thing ever!!! To you, it was a full-time snuggle buddy!! YAY!

Later in the day, I put you on your play mat (which Grandpa calls your PlayStation.) You weren't very happy with that because you've just gotten bored with the same old octopus. He used to be your friend but I guess you've decided you're a lot like Grandma and want to make new friends… keep the old ones and make new ones! Because I had to get your bottle ready and Grandpa wasn't around to keep an eye on you, I left you there. I knew you were safe there – unless Sophie and Carina decided you were fair game LOL.

Well, within a minute or two, your complaining had changed to joyful shrieking once again! I couldn't help but wonder, "What now?" When I went to investigate, you had squirmed your little body so much that you were now lying at a 90° angle from the way I had left you. Your little lamby was dangling right in your face and you were happy as a lark!

Later, when I lay you on the play mat, I thought I'd be a little creative and lay you on upside down so you saw Friend Octopus' back instead of his face. You actually thought that was pretty cool! You babbled at the back of his head for a while. I walked out of the room to do something and came back a couple of minutes later to your laughter and joyous vocalizations only to find that you had pulled Mr. Whale off the side of the arch and he was lying right on top of your face! You couldn't have been happier. What would the authorities think if they knew we let you do such things? Apparently, as long as it's fuzzy and it is happy to snuggle, so are you!

I love you, sweet little Eliza. I'm so glad we have this time together.
